Sprints, relays make noise in South Dakota
State Meet Highlights
- The race of the day came in the Girl's 2A 400. Freshman Krista Bickley of Brandon Valley upset the state record holding senior from Pierre T.F. Riggs, Cortney Dowling, winning in a new record 54.08. Dowling bettered her former record of 55.11 with her second place finish in 54.19. Dowling came back to win the 200 over Bickley, bettering her own state record in 24.27. She also won the 100 in 11.97.
- The Watertown boys relay squads had a terrific weekend, setting two state records. Their 4x200 relay ran 1:28.07 while their 4x100 relay broke the record in the prelims and then again in the final, running a best of 42.34.
- In the Class A ranks, the St. Thomas More girls broke state meet records in the 4x100 relay (49.19) and the sprint medley relay (4:10.37). Not to be out done, the St. Thomas More boys, also set a meet record in the 4x100 relay (42.66).
- Junior Luke Julian, also of St. Thomas More, set the meet record in the Class A 1,600 with his 4:17.37 win.
- SF Christian won the Class A boys sprint medley relay with a meet record time of 3:35.85.
- The girls of Custer won the Class A 4x800 relay, taking five seconds off the old meet record with their mark of 9:26.26.
- Tori Glazier, a sophomore from Custer, also broke the Class A 800 meet record in 2:14.13.
